Lazada
Designed by Bernard Schottlander
As admirer of Alexander Calder, in 1951 Schottlander created the Mantis series of lamps. Movement is intrinsic to all of Schottlander’s work: an artist, an engineer and in no small measure a handyman, he devised a clever system of counterweights combined with a series of strong, and flexible metal bars. The shade also is unique of its kind. Like an acrobat suspended in mid-air, it is made from aluminium using spinning and chasing techniques that are a part of the metalworker???Ǩ?Ѣs inventory of skills, but to which he has brought his sculptor???Ǩ?Ѣs eye to create a helical movement in which the symmetrical and the asymmetrical are in opposition.

Like a powder case or a precious box, the mechanical action of opening or closing makes the object reassuring and immediately understandable. The light is diffused by a thick glass pane, throughout its depththickness. Inside, the polished brass flap acts as a pivoting mirror thanks to a visible hinge.

In their Tense series for New Works, designers Panter & Tourron explore aspects of material tension, giving life to airy and flowing shapes. The dreamy cloud-like shade of the Tense Wall Lamp softly diffuses the light and creates a sculptural feel that suits a wide range of architectural settings. With a softness like fabric and […]

The Journey lamp is a merging of two classic geometric shapes, the sphere and the rectangle. The round, opal glass shade is reminiscent of the moon. Journey comes as both a table lamp and a wall lamp, with subtle colour combinations that make it easy to place anywhere. Whether the moon is full or not, […]
