The sleek Mstructure, made from solid beech strips, surrounds and supports the seat and the headrest in birch plywood with fabric upholstery. Inspired by the Scandinavian heritage of design and furniture craftmanship, In Between is a result of Sami Kallio?s solid grounding in traditional wood- working techniques and his eye for ingenious detail. It started with a single chair which later resulted in a series of furniture including both tables and chairs.
The chair, inspired by a model from 1930 by Josef Hoffmann, blends his interest in Art Nouveau and simple shapes with manufacturing processes applied in Bystrice pod Hostynem since 1861. The armchair is therefore more geometrical, but bears the clear features of the manual bending technique of TON.
“MT”, or the initials that calls these pieces designed by Ron Arad, are pronounced in English as “empty”. The void is the key element of this project.
