Designed by Bernard Schottlander
As admirer of Alexander Calder, in 1951 Schottlander created the Mantis series of lamps. Movement is intrinsic to all of Schottlander’s work: an artist, an engineer and in no small measure a handyman, he devised a clever system of counterweights combined with a series of strong, and flexible metal bars. The shade also is unique of its kind. Like an acrobat suspended in mid-air, it is made from aluminium using spinning and chasing techniques that are a part of the metalworker???Ǩ?Ѣs inventory of skills, but to which he has brought his sculptor???Ǩ?Ѣs eye to create a helical movement in which the symmetrical and the asymmetrical are in opposition.
Finishes:
Adjustable shade and stem, structure in steel and shade in aluminium in black
Dimensions:
W690-1080 x D740 x H1550-1700 mm
Wattage:
11W, E14

Thanks to the intelligence and elegance with which Tizio combines these two elements, the lamp […]

This stunning and massive crystal cloud floats in space with the lightness of a zeppelin. Blimp is the largest lighting piece Bomma’s master glassmakers are capable of creating by hand. Blowing into a metal form produces a graceful giant that is a testimony to human ingenuity and top-level craftsmanship. Although this creation is a dominant […]
Between 1951 and 1957, Le Corbusier designed the Sanskar Kendra Museum, a museum in the Indian city of Ahmedabad. The spiral shaped building contains all the fundamentals of his architecture. For this project, in 1954 Le Corbusier conceived a lighting system he named ?Projecteur?, installed in the structure to maximise the lighting effect
